A Quickie G-Reco Review

Email Me Prophet on Twitter Prophet on Bluesky -
I know I shouldn't pop into yet another Gundam series review so quickly but I kinda' sorta' don't have much else that's really newsworthy. It's been a bit of a slow news week.

Anyhoo! Although I know it's not officially out here in the US (as far as I know), I did find a subbed copy of the first two episodes of Gundam Reconguista in G. All I can really think to say is...

I like it but with reservations.

It's marks the return of Yoshiyuki Tomino - The Father of Gundam - to the franchise since his last series, Turn A, back in '99. It feels very much like that, too. I dug Turn A (which I still need to finish) and I have a feeling that I'm going to dig G-Reco just as much.

The part I have reservations about is the artwork. Kenichi Yoshida brings a strong style to the show's characters. The thing is that style makes the show the look like Yoshida's work in Eureka 7. As great as everything looks, I find myself waiting for Renton or Holland to pop up in an LFO at any moment. This isn't something that would me bail on the show as I really liked Eureka 7. It does take me out of the story a bit. That's not on the show, mind you... that's on me.

The mech designs are really neat. The main hero suit - the G-Self - is cool. Small and slick with two antenna sticking out the front its head. The Grimoire, Catsith and Recten are all interesting and I'm waiting to see the rest of the line-up.

Well, back to writing and some quick website stuff for me. I'll try to get something up for Wednesday. That all depends on which story I go with to close out the month.

'Till next time! = )
