Maybe it's that whole "I'm Technically a Graphic Artist" dealie (or the Meds I was taking to beat the Human Malware out of me) but I've recently found myself thinking about logos for fictional companies.
I'm not even talking stuff that'd be part of the comic, either. Stuff like the 'Silver Bullet Industries' logo, the 'Zooplex Solutions' logo or all the work I did on 'Frankensundae' was fun but technically work.
No, this is truly just random designs to fit a feel. Companies that don't exist and will probably never see the light of day in a project. Stuff that you'd find in a portfolio only I'm not gunning for work. This is just "For Fun".
And before you ask... Yes. It's still Monsterfolk related. I'm nothing if not predictable. = )
Of the ideas rolling around my brain, the one that took hold the hardest was for a 70's era audio company. I call it 'Lycan Electronics' and I'm going for the feeling of a mainstream Hi-Fi stereo company. You could easily see this attached to everything from small transistor radios to the fanciest of consoles and all those little parts and pieces to build your own reasonable audio setup inbetween. Like a competitor to Radio Shack's Realistic line or a company like Sharp - it's not at GE or RCA level brand recognition but the heart (and tech) is there.
Another that's been floating around is riffing off of an entry from last year's Drawlloween. I Kinda' want to take this one beyond just a basic logo and do up a whole Thing for it. It's been a while since I've done any proper copy and ad stuff.
This idea is Also werecritter adjacent in that it's for a product called "BeWere Instant Costumes". With this, I want to give it that goofy 90's ad feel. You know the type - uses either every font on the designer's computer to say something mildly aggressive to sell their product. That or uses large solid colors with an oddly crunchy Typewriter font and maybe a monochrome photo of the product in the background. These ads were less about selling you a Thing and more about selling you a story About a Thing.
For that initial Drawlloween image, I was still in the mood for comics and did something that felt a little more like a "Hostess Fruit Pie" or "Crest Toothpaste" ad. It was more comic than advert. The idea for this is more like an old SEGA dealie for selling folks on Sonic. This one May end up with some connection to Biff in that I do kinda' want to tie it to Zooplex for funsies. = )
What will I do with these after I'm done? No idea! Probably post them online (Patreon and elsewhere) and toss the parts I like onto RedBubble so folks can sport some completely fictional company gear. Honestly, this is just a way for me to stretch some older muscles and make some stuff that looks better than what 3/4ths of the companies out there are using. There's been a lot of personality drained from many a company during modern rebrandings. A lot of racing toward a strange homogeneity despite different design firms doing the work. I like to do the opposite of that.
Also, I really am a Graphic Designer and I tend to remember that and desire to show my passion for it sometimes. = P
