Fun with Lamps

Email Me Prophet on Twitter Prophet on Bluesky -
Before I talk about my lack of motivation for basic household repairs, a word on the site:

I've noticed a few graphics have gone kinda' wonky lately. If I'm just now noticing them, there's a solid chance they've been that way for a while. Stuff like the little buttons I have pushed ALL The way to the bottom of my page 'cause of course I did that. = P

I'm currently trying to get those either fixed or removed (I think one of the places is properly defunct so it has to go). I'm also looking into a new ad place that was inspired by the old "Project Wonderful" service. I'll report on that once I find some info out. If it's good, it might make for a nice way to talk up the comic and for others to easily find something new again.

Now for some minor fixing of... Stuff! = )

So, I've had this Lava Lamp in my room for years. It sits just above my bed on a little book shelf I made and it hasn't worked correctly for a while. The power switch on it has been effectively been hanging onto the cord by habit and a dot of super glue. When you flick it on, you could hear the arc of electricity inside of the thing from a foot away. It was bad enough that I simply stopped using it and unplugged it because it was very much a fire hazard.

That was well over a decade ago.

Cut to this past weekend and Another lamp of mine was in dire straits. It's a metal flex lamp attached to a plastic desk organizer base that sits directly on a shelf that's built into my bed's headboard. I noticed it was leaning way more than usual (it gets bumped when changing my sheets) so I opened the base up and found the plastic had finally given up. Note: This thing is well over 20 years old by now. It sat on my desk back at my last job. the fact it lasted this long is a minor miracle.

My solution to this was two-fold:

1) Get a new organizer for my headboard (I actually use it for stuff).

2) Get a new switch for the lamp so it could be used elsewhere.

3) Fix my Lava Lamp.

I picked up a two-pack of switches that looked nice enough and did a little handy work. My Lava Lamp lives again! = D

Still need a base for the other one but at least I have a proper switch for it when I do. And with that, I think I've written enough here. I've got some things to finish up, some cars to draw and an experiment auto-posting to LinkedIn that I'm still working on. Figured I'd harass the many old college folk that followed me there with updates as I honestly had nothing there before this. Easier to show them than tell them, ya' know? = )

Remember: Stay Safe. Wear a Mask. Get vaccinated if you can. Get a booster if you're already good on all that. And remember to keep your head up.

'Till next time! = )
